# Internal SOP Writer Skill
When writing SOPs:
- Start with purpose, owner, and trigger.
- Keep steps sequential and explicit.
- Add checkpoints and expected outcomes.
- Include common failure points and escalation paths.
- Avoid vague verbs like “handle”, “manage”, or “review” without specifics.

Use this when the team knows how a process works informally but has not documented it well enough for someone else to run it consistently.
It is useful for onboarding, operational runbooks, recurring workflows, and task handoffs that keep breaking because the process lives in people’s heads.
Why It Works
The skill forces process clarity before prose. That means owner, trigger, steps, checks, and escalation all get named explicitly.
The expected-outcome mindset is what makes SOPs actually useful. Steps without checkpoints create false confidence.
How to Customise
Add system names, role names, and tool-specific conventions if your workflow already has them.
If the SOP is for incident or customer-facing work, add risk level and approval rules directly into the structure.
Limitations
This improves documentation structure, but it does not prove the process itself is good.
If the team process is broken or inconsistent, the SOP will document that confusion rather than fix it automatically.
Model Notes
Claude and GPT both handle SOP structure well when the steps are concrete.
Model-agnostic overall, but better source notes produce much better SOPs.
